Like human healthcare, the vet profession has different tiers.
Mostly, our animals are seen by a primary care veterinarian (similar to a GP). Some GP vets also develop special interests and additional qualifications (for example, in dentistry, or orthopaedics etc).
Veterinary “specialists” are veterinarians who’ve undergone advanced training in their chosen discipline, involving several years of additional study, and are Board-certified.
